Embreeville Field

Under a blue sky
unseen white clouds drift,
across endless fields of grass.

Through rolling hills,
a desolate dirt road ends
across unused tracks.

At a field grown over, by
a posted fence surrounded,
rows of numbered stones.

A sign unread tilts in the wind,
below waves of grass bend,
'Known only to God".

Do the outcast spirits
of the tormented past
rest quietly in this lonely place,
